Housekeeping #3: Index and Guide

Welcome to "Dredd Reckoning"! This blog is no longer being regularly updated, but it includes discussions of all Judge Dredd-universe graphic novels as of January 2013. (To be more specific: every squarebound book reprinting Judge Dredd comics, or other comics set in that world, that's not made redundant by a later book.)

If you're wondering where to begin with the Dredd comics, there's a special post about that: Where to Start Reading Judge Dredd. (Short version: nearly every volume is self-contained, although there's a definite historical progression. My personal favorites among the in-print volumes are America, Case Files 5 and 14, the two Day of Chaos books, Brothers of the Blood, and Trifecta. Of the spinoffs, I especially like Chopper: Surf's Up, Mega-City Undercover Vol. 02: Living the Low Life, The Taxidermist, and Devlin Waugh: Red Tide.)

For those of you who don't want to monkey with the sidebar--or for those of you who want the complete, anal-retentive chronological reading order for all things Dredd-related--here are all the relevant books with otherwise unreprinted content, in order of "earliest otherwise unreprinted story," as closely as I can approximate it, with links to the blog entries:

One other note: if you buy any books from Amazon or Powell's via the sidebar or the images at the top of (most) individual posts, I get a little cut of the proceeds. And if you happen to have both a Kindle device and Amazon Prime and would like to do something that puts money in my pocket but won't cost you anything, I'd love it if you could borrow my Kindle Single "Comic-Con Strikes Again!" from the Kindle lending library. Thanks. I hope this site is helpful to you.

  3. Afraid not--since I'm now writing a Dredd miniseries myself ("City of Courts," coming in 2014 from IDW!), it wouldn't be cricket for me to...

  4. I just want to say that your page is most helpful - i reed a lot of Dredd as a child - all the considerd classic's and i dident know their names - but was able to find them via your site - thanks alot! - great job :)
    - althou i dont agreewith your recomendation regards the complete casefiles - these are only for diehard fans or children - i wouldent recomend them for reading - to modern comic fans that is - but thats Just my tastes'.. They are of to poor quality, visually speaking that is (I think... Not the storys' thou these are top shelf)
Beginners should read America, brothers of the blood, Like you recomend, also Pj Maybe, and some other modern collections, I think they otherwise should be disapointed...
